EXTRA LOW RANGE
Japanese 4x4 utility vehicles usually have 5 forward gears and 1 reverce gear. Plus Extra Low range or another Low range.
EL, H/L and diff-lock, each function is effective in running on the worse dirty and snowy road.
Extra low range is more powerful than 1st range when driving in the mud for instance. Although you want to use 1st range to go through in the mud, wheels are slipping inside the mud, so it is hard and danger to steer the vehicle. Then EL is effective. EL range makes wheels turn slowly and powerfully. Therefore a vehicle goes through the mud easily and safety.
Diff lock is the function which locks differential gear. I think if you are a tractor supplier, you know that farming tractors have the same function.
It is for going out of the deep mud, when a utility vehicle sticks in the deep mud.
When a vehicle sticks in the mud, only one wheel is turning and slipping.
So the vehicle never goes out. However if the differential gear is locked,
both sides of tires can turn at the same time, then you can go out of the mud by yourself easily and safely.
